NACKIYÉ CERAMICS

NACKIYÉ CERAMICS

The first addition to our homewares collection is a family of ceramic dishes entirely made by hand in Kutahya, one of the oldest known Anatolian towns that, for centuries, lay along the ancient trade routes connecting the Aegean Sea to the plains of Mesopotamia. A patchwork of cultures, religions and rituals, Kutahya is also where Nackiyé’s family roots lie within.

A center of ceramic production since Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine times thanks to the rich mineral deposits surrounding it, Kutahya eventually became one of the two hubs of the Ottoman tile and pottery industry, traditionally known as “Chini”. Contrary to the courtly style of the Iznik school directly influenced by the Palace, the motifs applied to vessels in Kutahya remained more whimsical, unrestrained.

Despite their delicate appearance, the pieces are known for their durability due to a double firing method under temperatures going up to 1200°C. The unique techniques employed in their making have been perfected and well-guarded by generations of master potters.

Our ceramic dishes are hand-made, hand-painted in one of Kutahya’s oldest leading ateliers.

They come in two different themes:

Anatolian Picnic, with sweet blue bunnies, foals and violets
1001 Nights, with our iconic pink camel and date palms

Both themes are available in three different styles and sizes. All plates are carefully finished with a 24K gold rim.

Below are:

Anatolian Picnic, Small (⌀ 19 cm)
1001 Nights, Small (⌀ 19 cm)
